چکیده مقاله:

Abstract Background and Objectives Recently, mesenchymal stem cells have attracted much attention in regenerative medicine and cell-based therapies. Mesenchymal stem cells are used in regenerative medicine mainly based on their capacity to differentiate into several cell lineages, low immunogenicity, and in particular their anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive-immunomodulatory properties.   Materials and Methods The present manuscript, by reviewing more than 150 recent published articles, introduces the latest information regarding the anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive-immunomodulatory properties of the mesenchymal stem cells.   Results The fibroblast-like mesenchymal stem cells can be isolated from various sources such as bone marrow, adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, Wharton jelly, umbilical cord, placenta, and amniotic fluid. The immunomodulatory properties of mesenchymal stem cells result from their interactions with innate and adaptive immune systems to inhibit immune cells. Such an inhibitory function is due to the interaction of these cells with immune cells through direct cell-cell contact or via paracrine secretory factors. The composition of these secretions or secretom of these cells includes various components such as growth factors, cytokines, chemokines, anti-inflammatory mediators and exosomes. Many in vivo studies in animal models have demonstrated that the ability of mesenchymal stem cells to regenerate and repair tissues is more attributed to their immunosuppressive-immunomodulatory function rather than their proliferative properties.   Conclusions  Therefore, understanding the mechanisms establishing the interactions of these cells with immune system would be important for their use as a promising therapeutic approach in the future for treatment of immunological diseases as well as in the field of regenerative medicine.

Immunomodulatory Effects of Mice Mesenchymal Stem Cells on Maturation and Activation of Dendritic Cells

Background: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) possess a wide range of immunomodulatory functions mostly in immune cells including dendritic cells (DCs). DCs are the key cells in the immune response and play an important role in initiating cell-mediated immunity. Objective: To evaluate the immunomodulatory effects of MSCs supernatant on maturation and function of DCs. Methods: Bone marrow derived m...

Angiogenic and Immunomodulatory Properties of Endothelial and Mesenchymal Stem Cells

It has been suggested that the effect of implanted cells on the local environment is important when selecting the appropriate cell type for tissue regeneration. Our aim was to compare the local tissue response to implanted human mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (EC). MSC and EC were cultured in poly(L-lactide-co-1,5-dioxepan-2-one) scaffolds for 1 week in ...

[Mesenchymal stem cells: immunomodulatory properties and clinical application].

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent nonhematopoietic cells that were first identified in bone marrow. Clinical interest for MSCs was initiated by the observation that MSCs are immunoprivileged cells that display immunomodulatory properties in vitro. Ex vivo expanded MSCs have therefore become a new type of cellular therapy in development with a wide range of potential clinical applica...

Immunomodulatory properties of mesenchymal stem cells: cytokines and factors.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are defined as undifferentiated cells that are capable of self renewal and differentiation into several cell types such as chondrocyte, adipocyte, osteocyte, myocyte, hepatocyte, and neuron-like cells. MSC can be isolated from bone marrow, umbilical cord blood, adipose tissue, placenta, periosteum, trabecular bone, synovium, skeletal muscle, and deciduous teeth. Im...

The Immune Properties of Mesenchymal Stem Cells

The goal of this review is to summarize current knowledge on the immune properties of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and to discuss how these properties might affect clinical applications, in particular tissue regeneration. Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) are pluripotent cells with unique immune properties. They show immunoenhancing as well as immunosuppressive properties. It is the latter propert...

[Immunomodulatory properties of stem mesenchymal cells in autoimmune diseases].

Autoimmune diseases are a cluster of disorders characterized by a failure of the immune tolerance and a hyperactivation of the immune system that leads to a chronic inflammation state and the damage of several organs. The medications currently used to treat these diseases usually consist of immunosuppressive drugs that have significant systemic toxic effects and are associated with an increased...
